The movement by people from one place to another with the intention of settling, permanently in the new location is called migration. Migration includes immigration and emigration. People coming into your country from another country for the purpose of taking up residence is called immigration and the people are called immigrants. The process in which a person leaves their own country in order to settle permanently in another is called emigration. And the person is called an emigrant. The difference between immigration and emigration gives the value of net migration.

One of the main problems associated with migration is xenophobia which means hatred towards the people of other country who came in by migration. It is showing dislike or prejudice against people from other countries.

Migration from mountains to the plane due to sheep herding is called transhumance. It is the action or practice of moving livestock from one place to other for the sake of grazing seasonally. It usually follows seasonal cycle, typically to lowlands in winter and highlands in summer.

Mukadam is a person who lends money as loan for the expenses of villagers and explains to the villagers in which areas they would go for the next six months and people  just earn enough money to keep them going through these months. To manage the remaining six months, when there is no rain, and no work in the fields everyone borrows money from the mukadam. To pay back this money people work for Mukadam. Mukadam is an agent for sugarcane factories. He helps them to find work in sugarcane fields.

Largest component of internal migration in India is rural-urban migration, which means migration from rural areas to urban cities. People migrate from rural areas to urban areas mainly for job opportunities, education and development.

Bangladesh is a country formed after dividing a piece of land from India which lies towards east of India. Migration of people to  India from Bangladesh is observed. This is because of the highest population density found in Bangladesh due to small land and more population. Density of population in Bangladesh is more than India.
