Australia is the sixth largest country in the world by area and the largest country in Oceania, the largest borderless country, as well as the largest country wholly in the Southern hemisphere. The five largest countries are Russia, Canada, USA, China, Brazil. India is the Seventh largest country.

The smallest continent by land area is Australia with 9,008,000 (km2) which represents just 6% of the total land area in the world. The largest continent in the world is Asia.

The final constitutional ties between the United Kingdom and Australia ended in 1986 with the passing of the Australia Act 1986.

Australia became an independent nation on 1 January 1901 when the British Parliament passed legislation allowing the six Australian colonies to govern in their own right as part of the Commonwealth of Australia.

In 1770, Captain James Cook reached the east coast of Australia, making landfall at Point Hicks, and then proceeding to Botany Bay. The expedition continued northward along the Australian coastline, narrowly avoiding shipwreck on the Great Barrier Reef.

The Arctic Ocean lies in the north of Asia bounded by America and Europe. It has a D-shaped form with an average depth of 3500m. and an area equal to 1/12 of the Pacific Ocean. The Arctic Ocean is almost frozen and 15 feet permanent thick ice is found due to which there are difficulties of exploring the bottom.

Asia is the largest continent in the the world covering 9% of the total geographical area of the earth and also 30% of the total land area.  This largest continent Asia supports  60% of the total population of the world. It located northern and eastern hemisphere. Asia has vast divercity in terms of culture, environment,ethnic group,historical background and aslo government types.

• Antarctica is the southernmost continent and it is in 1820 the man first set his foot in this region. It is uninhabited continent. The people living in this continent are those belonging to research groups of different countries.
  
• It is the continent that has lowest human population. The population is around 4000 in summer and 1000 in winter. This population is constituted by research teams of various countries. About 30 countries maintain about seventy research stations in Antarctica.
