• A fertilizer is a natural or synthetic material that is supplied to plant or soil to provide one or more essential nutrients to plant.
  
• Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth, development and reproduction. Despite nitrogen being the abundant element on earth, its deficiency is seen in plants. To avoid this nutrient deficiency nitrogen fertilizers are added to the soil.
  
• It is fertilizer that is consumed most in India.
  

Sindri is an industrial township within the Dhanbad municipal limits of the Dhanbad District of Jharkhand state. Sindri was well known because of a large Fertilizer factory (Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited - FCI, closed in 2002) conceived here in the early industrialized India.

This industry requires bulky and heavy raw materials like limestone, silica, alumina and gypsum. There are 128 large plants and 332 mini cement plants in the country. India produces a variety of cement. 

The first cement plant was set up in Chennai in 1904. After Independence the industry expanded. 

• Hazira in Gujarat is famous for chemical and fertilizer manufacturing. This fertilizer company has been set up by KRIBHCO to manufacture urea, ammonia and bio-fertilizers. This is established on the banks of river Tapti.

• Alluvium is a loose soil or sediments which are formed by erosion by rainwater. It is typically made of small particles of silt and clay and larger particles of sand and gravel.
  
• The fertility of alluvium is improved by nitrogen.
